The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has issued Notice No. 25 on the weeding out of candidates in NEET UG counselling 2026. The notice, marked “Urgent Attention” for candidates and state counselling authorities, follows a Supreme Court direction.
What the Notice Says
- The Supreme Court directed this in Contempt Petition (C) No. 289 of 2022 in W.P. No. 223 of 2022, Shubhankar Patnaik vs. K. Ramesh Reddy & Ors.
- Under that direction, filtering out joined All India Quota (AIQ) candidates is mandatory before the stray vacancy round of state UG counselling.
- Reporting for Round 3 of MCC UG counselling 2026 was completed on October 9, 2026.
- All state counselling authorities must now weed out AIQ candidates who have joined up to Round 3. This must be done before seat processing for Round 3 of state counselling.
Why This Step Matters
The purpose is to make sure a candidate who already holds an AIQ seat is not allotted a second seat through state counselling. Removing joined candidates from the state process also prevents seats from being blocked. Those seats can then go to other eligible candidates in the state rounds.
How States Will Get the Data
State counselling authorities can download the list of allotted candidates from the MCC data sharing portal. They will use this list to match and remove AIQ candidates who have joined their seats.
What Candidates Should Note
- Candidates who have joined an AIQ seat up to Round 3 should not expect a seat in state Round 3 allotment.
- Candidates who want to take part in state counselling should check the official website of their state authority for round and seat processing updates.
- Candidates should follow only the official MCC website and their state counselling portal for further notices.
