Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam for a second consecutive term on Tuesday during a grand ceremony held in Guwahati. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were present at the event alongside several senior NDA leaders.
The BJP-led NDA secured a massive victory in the Assam Assembly Elections 2026, winning 102 seats in the 126-member Assembly. The BJP alone crossed the majority mark with 82 seats, strengthening the party’s dominance in the Northeast.
Along with Himanta Biswa Sarma, four ministers were sworn into the new cabinet during the first phase of government formation. The ministers include:

Among the new faces, former Union Minister Rameswar Teli has returned to state politics and is expected to play an important role in the new administration. Senior leaders Ajanta Neog, Atul Bora, and Charan Boro also retained their positions in the cabinet.
During the ceremony, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that his previous tenure was “just the trailer” and hinted at a more aggressive development agenda for Assam in the coming years.
