Aadhaar Document Update 2026: Check Eligibility, Process and Last Date

Aadhaar Document Update 2026: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has provided a brief window to update ID and address documents for those who possess the unique number known as Aadhaar; however, for the period until 14 June 2026, no charges whatsoever shall be imposed for making such changes online. However, after 14 June 2026, online updating of documents will become chargeable; on the other hand, the cost for doing the same offline at Aadhaar Seva Kendra will always remain fixed at ₹75.

Note: Updating of documents online through myAadhaar remains free until 14 June 2026. Offline updating of documents through Aadhaar Seva Kendra remains ₹75 at all points in time.

What Is Aadhaar Document Update And Why Does It Matter?

The updating of the documents on the Aadhaar is where the person holding the card resubmits the proofs related to his identity and address on the Aadhaar file. There are two types of documents that need to be resubmitted, which are POI and POA. These documents are fundamental in helping in the verification process for KYC purposes at various financial institutions and governmental departments.

The UIDAI regularly asks the people to get their documents updated, particularly those who have got their Aadhaar card ten or more years back without getting anything done after the issuance of the Aadhaar card. People’s names would have been changed due to marriage reasons, and the address might have shifted from that provided during the issuing of the Aadhaar card. Getting the documents up to date will facilitate access to various services from banks and other governmental organizations.

Key Point: The updation of the documents helps one get rid of the possibility of KYC failure.

A verified and renewed Aadhaar card is far more trustworthy compared to an Aadhaar card that is not renewed. This is the best time for Indians to renew their cards free of charge.

Who Must Update First?

While the advice regarding information updation by the UIDAI has reached all Aadhaar cardholders, some cardholders will need to do so much sooner than others if they want to avoid problems after the deadline date. If one or more of the following applies to your situation, the information needs to be updated at once.

  • Your Aadhaar card is older than 10 years, and has not been updated ever since
  • The residential address listed on your Aadhaar card has changed
  • You have undergone a change in name owing to marriage or other reasons
  • You have faced issues during the KYC verification process from a financial organization, or when applying for various government schemes
  • You have obtained your Aadhaar through the camp-based procedure, where documentation may not have been updated or accurate

Note: Updating information about yourself can help verify your Aadhaar card’s status even if nothing about you has actually changed.

Documents that You Should Have

There are two types of documents that you will need. Both of these should be clearly scanned. The biggest cause of rejection is blurry scanning and mismatched scans of documents.

Proof of Identity (POI) – any one of these

  • Passport
  • PAN card
  • Voter ID card (EPIC)
  • Driving Licence
  • Any Government issued photo identity card

Proof of Address (POA)- any one of these

  • Electricity bill (the latest)
  • Bank statement (should not be older than three months)
  • Ration Card
  • Passport (can be used for both)

Other Supporting Documents, if needed

  • Certificate of marriage – if you want to change your name after marriage
  • Domicile certificate
  • Marksheet – for specific name verification purposes

Note: The name on the document should match your Aadhaar perfectly. The slightest mismatch could result in rejection.

Updating Aadhaar Online Step by Step

This can be done entirely online within one sitting. Have your documents prepared before starting.

  • Step 1: Go to myAadhaar
Go to the official UIDAI self-service website at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.
Step 2: Log in using your Aadhaar Number
At the homepage, click the “Login” button. Input your 12-digit Aadhaar number along with your CAPTCHA details. A One Time Password (OTP) is then sent to your linked mobile phone.
  • Note: You cannot log in online if your mobile phone is not linked to your Aadhaar card. Offline biometric verification needs to be done at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
  • Step 3: Complete OTP Authentication
Log in using the OTP that was sent to your phone. Remember that the OTP is temporary. It expires within seconds. Click “Resend OTP” if not received.
  • Step 4: Go to Your Dashboard
Following your log in, your dashboard becomes accessible, presenting you with all possible self-service functions.
  • Step 5: Choose Document Update
  • Tap on Document Update and select Update Aadhaar Online from the page that follows.
  • Step 6: Upload POI & POA Documents
  • Upload legible scanned copies of the selected Proof of Identity and Proof of Address documents. These are usually uploaded in either JPEG or PDF formats, provided the file size does not exceed the permissible limit.
  • Step 7: Verify and Submit
  • Make sure each document uploaded is clearly visible before pressing the Submit button. The request cannot be undone once it has been submitted.
  • Step 8: Print the Acknowledgment Slip
  • After submitting successfully, an acknowledgment slip will be printed. Download it for future use. The slip holds your Update Request Number (URN) which will come handy when tracking your update request later.
  • Note: Save your Acknowledgement Slip and URN at once after submitting. Otherwise, you will not be able to track your request on the online portal.

Steps to Check Update Status

The UIDAI generally takes anywhere between a few days and a couple of weeks to process the submitted documents. After receiving the URN, it becomes simple for you to track your application status.

  • Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/check-aadhaar
  • Enter your Aadhaar number and the URN received from the acknowledgement slip
  • It will display your application’s status

Note: There are no costs associated with checking your application status; it is entirely free and can be done at any time.

How to Update Aadhaar Offline If Your Mobile Number Is Not Linked

If you have not linked your mobile number with your Aadhaar number or if you wish to go the conventional way, then offline update through an Aadhaar Seva Kendra remains accessible throughout the year.
Through the offline procedure, one needs to provide physical POI and POA documents along with the signed Aadhaar Update/CORrection Request Form. Biometrics (fingerprint/iris scan) will be recorded on-site. An update request attracts a charge of ₹75 per application and this remains constant regardless of the validity period of the free 14 June deadline.

To locate your nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra, head over to uidai.gov.in and utilize the “Locate Enrollment and Update Centres” search function.

Note: Offline updates remain ₹75 only; there is no free window when using the offline process. The best course of action if one can make use of the myAadhaar site is to complete the online update prior to 14 June.
