The National Testing Agency has officially cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3, 2026, following allegations of malpractice and irregularities. The decision was announced through an official press release issued on May 12, 2026. 
According to the notice, the agency stated that after reviewing inputs shared by central agencies and law enforcement authorities, it was decided that the examination process “could not be allowed to stand.” The NTA said the decision was taken in coordination with the Government of India to ensure transparency and maintain the integrity of the national medical entrance examination system. 
The press release further confirmed that the matter has now been referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations surrounding the examination. The NTA stated that it would extend full cooperation to investigating agencies and provide all required records and materials. 
The agency clarified that fresh registration will not be required for candidates appearing in the re-examination. Existing registration data, exam city preferences, and candidature details from the May 2026 cycle will automatically be carried forward. Additionally, students will not need to pay any extra examination fee, and those who have already paid will receive refunds where applicable. 
The NTA acknowledged that conducting the examination again may cause inconvenience to students and parents but stated that the step was necessary to protect trust in the examination system. New examination dates and revised admit card schedules will be announced separately through official channels. 
Candidates and parents have been advised to rely only on official updates released by the NTA and avoid misinformation circulating on social media platforms.
