The date of the Bhati murder is given as 13 September 1992 by The Tribune, by the Central Bureau of Investigation record and by most later reports. December 1992 was given in one Deccan Herald report from 2015. The September date is the better supported one.

- Vikas Yadav, his son. He was convicted of the kidnapping and murder of Nitish Katara, who was killed on the night of 16 to 17 February 2002. The trial court convicted him in May 2008. The Delhi High Court called it an honour killing and set the term at 25 years without remission. The sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court on 3 October 2016, and a review petition was dismissed in 2018. Interim bail was granted to him by the Supreme Court in April 2025 so that his ailing mother could be attended to. Status: convicted.
- Vikas Yadav, Jessica Lal case. He was convicted by the Delhi High Court in December 2006 of destroying evidence after the 1999 killing of Jessica Lal, and a four-year term was imposed. The conviction was upheld by the Supreme Court in April 2010. Status: convicted.

Recent Activity
A farmers’ meeting was held by him on 28 February 2026 at the Dhanari farmhouse in the Gunnaur tehsil of Sambhal district. Workers and supporters from the Budaun and Sambhal areas were gathered there. Gagan Yadav was appointed national youth president of the Rashtriya Parivartan Dal at the same event. It was said by him that candidates would be fielded by the party in the 2027 assembly election and in the three-tier panchayat elections, and that a decision on contesting alone or in alliance would be taken later by the party’s national executive.
In August 2026, a letter was sent by him to the District Magistrate and the Senior Superintendent of Police of Budaun asking for a higher level of security. It was stated in the letter that he feared for his life. The earlier murders of his elder brother and his brother-in-law were cited by him as the reason. It was also said by him at that time that Gagan Yadav would be fielded from Sambhal in 2027 and that talks with several parties were under way.
