The Directorate of Medical Education & Research (DME), Tamil Nadu, has announced that the state will not be adopting the Medical Counselling Committee’s (MCC) newly introduced guidelines for All India Quota (AIQ) counselling this year, choosing instead to continue with its own established system for MBBS/BDS admissions in 2026-2027.
The MCC had recently rolled out changes such as a Freeze/Float category system for candidates, remote document verification for Float candidates, and a digital process for seat surrender.
However, in a notification issued on August 3, 2026, the Tamil Nadu Selection Committee said the state already has comparable systems running smoothly:
- Verification of Documents: Done centrally at the application stage, followed by physical checks at the college during admission.
- Digital Resignation: All seat resignations must go through www.tnmedicalselection.org only – offline resignation is not permitted.
- Round-wise Upgradation: Candidates can still move from Round 1 to Round 2 and Round 2 to Round 3 as per the existing prospectus.
The Committee confirmed that admissions under Government, Management, Minority, and NRI quotas for MBBS/BDS will continue as per G.O.(D) No.667, G.O.(D) No.695, and the 2026-27 State Prospectus.
It further noted that any changes aligning with national counselling norms would only be made in the future, and only after ensuring students get enough time to prepare.
