President Donald Trump said Saturday that the US is not at war with Iran because no one has been hurt or killed in five months. Trump also said the U.S. is now producing more oil than it did before the hostilities began. “We made a lot of progress with Iran,” he said. “It’s not a war.”
His comments come as the direction of the U.S. military campaign against Iran remains unclear. The White House is weighing military options, including new airstrikes.
In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote that Israel and the entire Middle East would not exist today if he had not stopped Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. “Everybody knows it’s true,” he wrote. He said his role in blocking Iran’s nuclear program was widely recognized but underreported.
U.S. and Israeli forces struck Iranian nuclear and military sites in 2025 and 2026. Trump has repeatedly called the strikes a complete success.
The extent of the damage to Iran’s nuclear program is still not established. A Congressional Research Service assessment published in October said the effect on Iran’s ability to produce weapons domestically is unknown. The report also noted earlier U.S. intelligence findings that Tehran had not been building nuclear weapons.
Iran has denied seeking nuclear weapons. Its officials say the country’s nuclear program is for civilian use only.
