The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the postgraduate (PG) seat matrix for the academic year 2026-27 through a public notice from its Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB). The matrix lists the medical colleges and institutions, the PG courses and the annual intake approved for participation in counselling.
What the seat matrix contains
For every entry, the matrix gives:
- College code
- State
- Name of the medical college or institution
- Category as per MCC (Government, Private or Deemed)
- Corrected course name
- Approved seats for 2026-27
PG seats at a glance
The notice does not give a combined total. According to a count of the published matrix, it lists 63,177 PG seats across all categories and courses.

Seats not yet included
The matrix leaves out seats sought through applications for increased intake in existing PG courses and for new PG courses in 2026-27. Any such seats, once approved, will be added to a later updated matrix on the NMC website.
Matrix may be revised
- The matrix may change based on decisions of MARB, the Appeal Committee or any other competent authority.
- Any revised matrix will be uploaded on the NMC website.
- Central and State/UT counselling committees will use the revised matrix for counselling and admissions.
Instructions for medical colleges
- Admit students only against the seats approved by MARB for 2026-27.
- Admission beyond the approved intake violates the NMC Act, 2019, and its regulations.
- Such colleges face regulatory and penal action.
Instructions for counselling committees
- Refer any discrepancy or deviation in the latest matrix to MARB for clarification.
- Follow all NMC and MARB directions strictly.
- Report any error, omission or inconsistency to the President or Director of MARB, preferably before counselling begins. Queries can be sent to pg-marb@nmcindia.gov.in.
What NEET PG candidates should do
- Check the seat matrix on the NMC website before choice filling.
- Watch for revised or additional matrices, since new seats and corrections can change the seats available in each round.
