Lucknow: In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation amid rising global crude oil concerns, the Government of Uttar Pradesh led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has initiated a series of austerity and energy-saving measures across the state.
The move comes at a time when geopolitical tensions in West Asia continue to put pressure on international oil markets, prompting governments to explore ways to reduce fuel consumption and manage public expenditure.
State Employees May Get WFH for Two Days a Week
According to officials, the Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to implement a work-from-home (WFH) model for state employees in departments where remote working is feasible. Employees working in major urban centres such as Noida, Ghaziabad, Lucknow, and Kanpur may soon be allowed to work from home for up to two days a week.
Sources said a formal advisory is likely to be issued soon to streamline the implementation process across various departments and offices.
CM Orders Reduction in Official Convoys
In a significant cost-cutting and symbolic move, CM Yogi Adityanath directed that the number of vehicles in ministerial convoys be reduced by nearly 50 percent with immediate effect. The directive also applies to the Chief Minister’s own convoy.
Departments have additionally been instructed to remove unnecessary vehicles from government fleets in order to reduce fuel expenses and improve efficiency.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a high-level review meeting with the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, and senior bureaucrats to assess the evolving fuel situation and discuss measures to minimise energy consumption.
Officials reviewed possible administrative changes that could help the state reduce dependency on fuel-intensive operations.
Government Meetings to Shift Online
The state government has also encouraged departments to organise seminars, workshops, and inter-departmental meetings virtually wherever possible. Officials indicated that nearly half of all meetings conducted at the State Secretariat and various directorates may soon shift to online platforms.
The transition is expected to reduce travel-related fuel usage and operational costs.
Public Asked to Use Buses and Metro Services
The Chief Minister appealed to residents to prefer public transport systems, including services operated by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation and metro rail networks running in major cities.
Citizens were urged to reduce the use of private vehicles and contribute toward fuel conservation efforts during the current period of global economic uncertainty.
The latest measures highlight the Uttar Pradesh government’s attempt to align state-level governance with the Centre’s broader push for energy efficiency and responsible fuel usage.
